University

I am doing the G400 computer science degree at Aberystwyth alongside being a holder of the academic excellency scholarship.

Currently my favourite modules have been information security, modelling persistent data and data structures.

It has helped me develop confidence in aspects like theory and programming. Of which I had very little knowledge on upon starting my degree

I have been committee for the Aberystwyth Computer Society for nearly a year. I have secured a spot to do it again for another year. My responsibilities included advertising the society to newcomers, attending regular sessions and promoting a healthy environment for people in the society to talk about their computer related interests.

Working closely with the British Computer Society (Primarily it's Aberystwyth chapter) I had to attend monthly meetings with other alumni (including Aberystwyth lecturers) + promote and attend sponsored events throughout the term. A prime example of this being when the department of computer science hosted a hardware hackathon. This began when I and fellow committee met a motivated ex Aberystwyth University student at FOSDEM willing to provide ESP32's for the event so long as everything was organised for him. The turnout was a great success, involving a range of participants from ex alumni, to lecturers, to students.

Every year, the Aberystwyth Computer Society would go on a trip to brussels for FOSDEM. An open source software convention that gathers speakers and organisations from around the world to talk about their projects/special interests.

During my second year I was committee for the Computer society and therefore was involved in organising/communicating with members for events like the volunteer cleanup and a big dinner at the end of the weekend.

On top of this I did actual volunteering at the event. Specialising in helpdesk and cleanup, I directed people to their respective talk areas and helped with selling FOSDEM related merchandise.
